The quote by Steuart Henderson Britt to me is about what advertising really means to a product. There's no product can be sell without advertising. Nobody would know the existence of a product if there's no advertising to tell about it. And people would question what the product can do or how it gives benefit to consumer. It's a way to illuminate consumers mind. If a company made a bad product but having a good ad, consumer would probably believe the product is good.
It is obvious here that the main purpose of advertising is to create awareness of consumers towards a product.
